Please join us for the November meeting of the Jacksonville Orchid Society on Tuesday evening, 14 November 2017, at 7:00 PM.

This month’s featured presenter is Eric Cavin. An AOS Judge, Eric will discuss “Judging Orchids-What is looked for in an awardable Orchid and how to prepare your Orchid to show.” Eric will not have any orchids for sale at the meeting. Consequently, member sales of orchids are encouraged, with the understanding that 20% of the sale price goes to the club.

Speaking of Orchid Sales, we’ll also have orchids from the collection of Chuck Clouse. If you missed the opportunity to purchase one of Chuck’s orchids, we’ll have a large number of Leptotes bicolor (cattleya like), Dendrobium aggregatum, Dendrobium jenkinsii (miniature aggregatum), and a number of other orchids for sale. In addition, we’ll also have the normal raffle table as well.

Officer Nominations. We’ll select a slate of new officers at the November, so please plan on attending to express your vote. In addition, if you are interested in serving in a position, please let the nomination committee know so that they can place your name into consideration.

Christmas Party. Mark your calendars for 3 December. We’ll be at the Jacksonville Country Club again, as last year. We’re working out the details, but expect the prices to be the same as last year, with a similar selection.

Here’s hoping to see you there.

The Jacksonville Orchid Society meets on the second Tuesday of each month (except in May and December) at the Garden Club of Jacksonville, 1005 Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32204. The doors open at 7 pm. Guests and visitors are always welcome! If you decide to join after coming to a few meetings, membership is $25.00 for a family and $20.00 for individuals.

We conduct an Orchid Culture Class for beginner and new growers needing assistance beginning at 7 pm. This is a good time to ask questions from an expert grower and get tips for what to do when there is a problem. The class covers a wide variety of topics including species and hybrids that are good to grow in this area, identification of pests and diseases, watering and fertilizing, and where to grow your orchids.

Our general program with guest speakers begins at 7:30. During the program, we hold a general business meeting, serve refreshments, listen to an inspiring presentation by an orchid expert, participate in a raffle, and look at many beautiful and exotic orchids brought in by our members on the “Show Table.” As a general rule, guest speakers often bring orchids for sale to members, guests and visitors before or after the meeting.

Members are welcome to bring blooming plants for a friendly judging at the Show Table. Here are the Show Table Instructions and a link to the interactive Show Table Forms:
