Reminder – 1st 2022 Meeting of the Jacksonville Orchid Society

Please be sure to have marked your calendar for this coming Tuesday evening, 11 January for the first 2022 meeting of the Jacksonville Orchid Society. JOS member Courtney Hackney will get us started off properly with his presentation “What’s Wrong With My Orchid?”

Courtney will also have orchids available for sale and will accept cash or cheques. Please do not bring a credit card as he does not accept them.

GENERAL:
Doors will open at 6:00pm and the meeting will begin promptly at 6:45PM. Prior to the start of the meeting, please buy your raffle tickets. Orchids for the Raffle Table are sourced from the JOS’ own Courtney Hackney. Don’t miss this chance to pick up new and different genera of orchids to add to your collection at a good price.
At 6:45PM, we will have a brief business meeting and then take a brief break in preparation for the presentation by JOS member Courtney Hackney Emeritus Professor of Biology and the former Director of Coastal Biology at the University of North Florida. Courtney is a JOS favorite and this month will speak on “What’s Wrong With My Orchid?”

SILENT AUCTION TABLE:
Members may offer two orchids for silent auction at the Silent Auction Table. It is recommended that such orchids be either in bloom or accompanied by a photograph and description. 20% of the Silent Auction sales fees goes to the JOS. It is also recommended that the seller bring a completed Silent Auction Form (see link below).

SHOW TABLE:
Members & Especially Novice Growers – Don’t forget to bring your blooming orchids for the Show Table and no-pressure judging. Remember also that all orchids brought for the Show Table should be free of virus, bugs, scale, or any other pests. Please also clean any orchid for sale, auction, or the Show Table.

The Jacksonville Orchid Society meets on the second Tuesday of each month (except in May and December) at the Mandarin Garden Club at 2892 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223. The doors open at 6:00 pm. Guests and visitors are always welcome! If you decide to join after coming to a few meetings, membership is $25.00 for a family and $20.00 for individuals.

Our General Meeting is a good time to ask questions from our expert growers and get tips for what to do when there is a problem. We cover a wide variety of topics including species and hybrids that are good to grow in this area, identification of pests and diseases, watering and fertilizing, and where to grow your orchids.
