9 August 2022 GENERAL MEETING of the Jacksonville Orchid Society

Please mark your calendars for the evening of 9 August 2022 from 6:45 – 9 PM as the Jacksonville Orchid Society (JOS) conducts its monthly meeting.

GENERAL:

Doors will open at 6:00 PM and the meeting will begin promptly at 6:45 PM. Prior to the start of the meeting, please buy your raffle tickets.

At 6:45 PM, we will have a brief business meeting and then take a short break in preparation for the presentation by noted JOS member Joshua Jones. He will speak on “Dendrobiums, Sections and Culture.”

Josh is a grower, producer, and educator of all things orchid related. Joshua has been growing healthy and established orchids for over 15 years. Living in Jacksonville, FL his entire life, he started growing orchids with a basic Phalaenopsis and graduated to more complex species and hybrids of all genera. He then branched out into ceramics and is now creating exquisite orchid pottery with great detail using the best products available. Most recently he has expanded into his new venture in life with “The Orchid Den” (see https://www.youtube.com/c/TheOrchidDen). Joshua has received multiple awards for his exceptionally well grown plants, educates about orchid growing and is starting to hybridize orchids. Be sure to see his YouTube channel.

SHOW TABLE: Members & Especially Novice Growers – Don’t forget to bring your blooming orchids for the Show Table and no-pressure judging. Remember also that all orchids brought for the Show Table or for sale should be free of virus, bugs, scale, or any other pests. Please also clean any orchid for auctionbor the Show Table.

The Jacksonville Orchid Society meets on the second Tuesday of each month (except in May and December) at the Mandarin Garden Club at 2892 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223. The doors open at 5:45 pm. Guests and visitors are always welcome! If you decide to join after coming to a few meetings, membership is $35.00 for a family and $25.00 for individuals.

6:35 PM – Show Table Orchids due – Submissions after this time will not be judged
6:45-7:30 PM business meeting/announcements

Our General Meeting is a good time to ask questions from our expert growers and get tips for what to do when there is a problem. We cover a wide variety of topics including species and hybrids that are good to grow in this area, identification of pests and diseases, watering and fertilizing, and where to grow your orchids.
