Our history reflects a growing interest in orchids in the region, and today it is a society that includes members with all levels of experience, from beginners to long-time experts. Starting out with your first orchid or even just a few can be a daunting task as soon as you look for advice on Google. There you’ll quickly find an almost endless number of webpages offering all types of information – both good and bad. Consider the often common advice of “Ice cubes in your orchids.” Don’t do it! Orchids are tropical plants and did not evolve to properly use ice cubes!
So, the question is who to trust? Your local orchid society should be your first stop for advice. They know what grows in their area and can help you learn to grow orchids. An additional trusted source should be the American Orchid Society (AOS at https://www.aos.org). Conveniently, the AOS offers convenient guides to frequent questions about orchid culture.

The Novice Section of the Jacksonville Orchid Society’s webpage will present a continuing selection of articles and videos’ of use for the novice orchid grower.
