14 June General Meeting of the Jacksonville Orchid Society

14 June 2022 JOS GENERAL MEETING

Please mark your calendars for the evening of 14 June 2022 from 6:45 – 9 PM as the Jacksonville Orchid Society (JOS) conducts its monthly meeting.

GENERAL:

Doors will open at 6:00 PM and the meeting will begin promptly at 6:45 PM. Prior to the start of the meeting, please buy your raffle tickets.

At 6:45 PM, we will have a brief business meeting and then take a short break in preparation for the presentation by noted expert on Florida’s Native Orchids (see http://flnativeorchids.premdesign.com), Mr. Prem Subrahmanyam. Mr. Subrahmanyam has spoken to the JOS previously and this time will speak on “Florida’s Endangered Orchids.”

MEMBER ORCHID SALES and SILENT AUCTION TABLE:

  • Member Silent Auction (two orchids only) is encouraged
  • Member Sale of Orchids is encouraged

SHOW TABLE:

Members & Especially Novice Growers – Don’t forget to bring your blooming orchids for the Show Table and no-pressure judging. *Remember also that all orchids brought for the Show Table or for sale should be free of virus, bugs, scale, or any other pests. Please also clean any orchid for sale, auction, or the Show Table*.

The Jacksonville Orchid Society meets on the second Tuesday of each month (except in May and December) at the Mandarin Garden Club at 2892 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223. The doors open at 5:45 pm. Guests and visitors are always welcome! If you decide to join after coming to a few meetings, membership is $35.00 for a family and $25.00 for individuals.

Doors open at 6:00 PM for set up.
6:00-6:45 PM set up, vendor plant sales, silent auction, raffle ticket sales, snack
6:35 PM – Show Table Orchids due – Submissions after this time will not be judged
6:45-7:30 PM business meeting/announcements
7:30-8:30 PM speaker
8:30 PM vendor plant sales, show table, raffle/silent auction
9:30 PM adjourn

Our General Meeting is a good time to ask questions from our expert growers and get tips for what to do when there is a problem. We cover a wide variety of topics including species and hybrids that are good to grow in this area, identification of pests and diseases, watering and fertilizing, and where to grow your orchids.
